  • Wilder is an ode to the desert, a collection of Coyote poems. Coyote appears in many native stories and traditions. He can be many things, a trickster, a creator, evil or benevolent. For me, he is somewhat of an alter-ego. In poetry, he often helps me find words for what has been long unsaid. Although some of these poems were written years ago, I have been adding the finishing touches to this collection while living high in the Rocky Mountains. There’s snow falling outside yet again, the temperatures are unbearably low, and I ache for desert warmth. And yet even here coyotes circle the house and sing into the night. And even here, Coyote peeks into my window and asks for a poem.
