Sheltered means safe. Unfortunately, safe isn’t what Olivia and Orion need right now. Almost everyone has two lives and facial markings to show them, but Olivia never developed her second mark. On top of the bullying she receives because of it, her mother’s final life is fading. Desperate to find a way to save her, she and her brother Orion leave their safe, sheltered village in search of the immortality mushroom. There’s just one problem: they’re not the only ones looking for it.The siblings are separated for a time, and Olivia must learn how to survive despite her family not being there to save her. She adapts, finds courage amid life-or-death situations, and learns of her own immunity. Together with her new friends, they encounter infected animals and people along the way and learn that not all monsters look their part.
